Saxophonist Ernie Fields Jr., not to be confused with his father, notable swing era bandleader Ernie Fields known as the “King of Swing”. Fields Jr. attended Howard University in Washington DC where he majored in music education and applied music, after serving in the US 33rd Army band in Heidelberg Germany in 1956-1958. By 1966, Fields Jr. was a well-established bandleader, producer, and talent scout. His arsenal instruments include saxophones, flutes, clarinet & bass clarinet, bagpipes, and didgeridoo. Notable are Ernie’s years of work as a musician and also as an educator. For the past 15 years, Ernie Fields Jr. has advocated music and musicians in education as bandleader of Los Angeles Jazz Society Jazz in Schools Program. His Associations & Credits include great soul performers such as the late Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin, Lou Rawls, Rick James, Fred Wesley, the Count Basie Orchestra, Howard Theatre House band, & more.
